how to teach a young girl how to insert a tampon?
my niece is 11 and has a mandatory gymnastics practice tonight and has to wear just a leotard. its her first period, but i talked to her and she is going to try it out. i am watching her for the month while her parents are away on a church mission with no cell service- but she is comfortable with me helping her. and if she can't do it we are going to try just a pantyliner.
what brand has the smallest tampon? (plastic applicater- much easier)
how do i teach her?
any websites for young girls about tampons/periods?
Tell her to spread her...apart with her fingers and squat and tell her to hold the part where the big tube ends (usually visible) and then tell her to push it in until her fingers touch her skin, and then push the smaller tube up until it reaches your skin. after that tell her to take it out the same way it went in, until all she sees is a string. i've noticed that when i put a tampon in (whether its super, regualar,or light) that i don't really notice a difference in the size. I would start off with playtex sport for gymnastics. Just in case, make sure she wears like a black, purple, or other dark colored leotard. i would wear a pantyliner as well just to be safe. rather safe then sorry. and beinggirl has a lot of info on periods and blogs plus a free starter kit which is great.
